The President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil met a group of 70 children from Delhi and surrounding towns at Rashtrapati Bhavan today on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. The children from various age groups included some who are mentally and physically challenged and hearing impaired from various schools of Delhi and the towns of Rewari, Bahadurgarh, Panipat, Ambala, Bhiwadi and Faridabad.
Speaking to the children, the President said she is happy that the children of India know the importance of the festival of Raksha Bandhan. The festival of Rakshan Bandhan symbolizes the inseparable bond of love between brother and sister, which knows no barriers of caste or religion. Smt. Patil said, everyone needs to spread across the country, the message of love and the spirit of helping one another. Indian is known for having emotional integrity and all problems whatever they may be can be solved through discussions. Everyone in the country must spread the message of peace so that India can progress in all spheres, she emphasized.
The President spent time with the children and also distributed sweets to them.
